Dublin’s 3Arena plays host to one of the biggest fights in women’s boxing this weekend, as undisputed lightweight champ Katie Taylor squares up against undisputed super lightweight champ Chantelle Cameron.
Taylor’s first fight in Ireland since turning pro, the epic matchup comes after Amanda Serrano pulled out of their highly anticipated rematch due to injury, with Cameron stepping in to pose a completely new challenge.
Topping the Bill
Making history last April when Taylor and Serrano were the first female fighters to headline a show at Madison Square Garden, the fierce contest didn’t fail to deliver, with Taylor edging the judges’ scorecards to win by split decision.
The momentous occasion and result set the fighters up for a rematch, but following the news of Serrano’s injury in February, Taylor was quick to call out Cameron for her belts.
As the Bray-born boxer sets her undisputed crown aside to chase a second one in a heavier weight class, someone’s 0 will have to go.
Fight Night
The pair will battle it out in Dublin across 10 rounds, with ring walks for the main event expected at 10pm.
Fans won’t have to wait that late for the fireworks to kick off though, as Terri Harper defends her WBA super-welterweight title against Cecelia Braekhus, while Dennis Hogan faces James Metcalf and local lad Thomas Carty takes on Jay McFarlane in the heavyweight division.
