What a year for runners it has been. Here at JD, we wanted to look back at the runner trends that have defined this year and to find out what you have been loving in your kick collection over the past 12 months.
We’ve made things easy and split it into categories: Which were the most searched online? Which appeared on the screen the most? Which where the most resold kicks? And, to begin with, which were the most popular overall across our three categories?
So, let’s lace up and get started!
Most Popular Runners in Ireland
Jordan 1
The most popular runner of the year in Ireland was the Jordan 1! Originating from basketball legend Michael Jordan, the runners came out on top in our index scoring 5.28 out of 10 across our three metrics.
adidas Samba
In second place is the adidas Samba, a runner that originated over 7 decades ago and has been enjoying a big revival over the past few years. The ‘terrace’ runner performed well across our data points and subsequently scored 4.71 in the index.
Jordan 4
Making its debut in 1989, the Jordan 4 is consistently a fan favourite. It’s also the 25th anniversary of the runner, with the OG ‘Military Blue ‘89 colourway coming out this year in homage to its birthday. The Jordan 4 came third in our roundup, scoring 4.34.
Most Searched Runners in Ireland
Which runners were searched for across Ireland in 2024? This is broken down by average monthly searches.
adidas Samba
Coming top of the most searched runners of the year were the adidas Samba. It’s been a year of growth for one of the Germans footwear retailer’s staple products, with a big increase in popularity especially in Ireland.
On average over the past year, the runner that is searched most in Ireland is the Samba, which accumulates 40 thousand queries per month!
adidas Gazelle
In second place is another offering from the German footwear manufacture, highlighting that the Irish love adidas runners!
The Gazelle has seen a huge comeback in recent years and is now a staple in footwear collections.
As such, it was the second most searched runner in Ireland, accruing 27,000 searches each month.
New Balance 530
Second place was actually a tie alongside the New Balance 530. The versatile and stylish runner is clearly a huge favourite among the Irish audience searching online!
The Runners Most Seen on Screen
You might be wondering what shoe was shown on the screen the most in 2024, From TV shows to your favourite films. Fortunately, we have all the answers.

Converse All Star!
It was the star of this show this year, appearing in in The Spiderwick Chronicles, Tarot, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Vans Old Skool
Taking third place on the podium is the Vans Old Skool, which appeared 36 times, including Late Bloomers, Road House, and The Marvels. With a versatile design, it’s no shock that producers are loving these infamous skate shoes.
Nike Air Force 1
Next up, the Nike Air Force 1. It’s easy to see why this one got so much time on the screen with its versatile and classic design.
New Balance 574
Wrapping up this section is the New Balance 574. After another year of popular silhouettes for New Balance, it was the 574 that made its way onto your screens 24 times.
The Most Resold Runners Of The Year
In this section, we looked at which sneaks have been resold the most online on Stock X in 2024. Does this indicate popularity? Limited stock? In other words, were they poppin’ off this year?
Jordan 4
Looking at which trainers appeared most on Stock X’s top 100 most resold in 2024, the Jordan 4 again came out first with 12.
Jordan 1
A similar story to the main ranking, Jordan 1 sits just behind the Jordan 4 in this list with 11 appearances.
adidas Campus
With fewer than half of the Jordan 1’s, Campus ranked third with five appearances.
Jordan 3
At this point, we could call it the Jordan show. But on a real, it’s impressive to see three silhouettes ranking high in the standings. The court-inspired kicks appeared three times.
Nike Air Force 1
With a count of three in the most sold runners of 2024 list, finishing off this leaderboard is the Air Force 1.

Methodology:
- Index looked at three data points: search demand, runners on film and TV and Stock X’s top 100 most resold runners.
- Each score from each data point was ranked using the normalised score (highest being 1 and lowest being 0).
- All three scores for each trainer were then averaged and multiplied by 10 to get a score out of 10.
