Today isn’t just any Thursday, it’s Vans Checkerboard Day 2020! Happening each year on November 19th, Checkerboard Day is Vans’ annual event that celebrates creativity and recognises how it can make the world a better place.
If you’ve not heard of it before, don’t worry. We’re about to fill you in on all the amazing things Vans are doing to celebrate this year!
What’s Vans Checkerboard Day?
Each year, Vans celebrates ‘Checkerboard Day’ – an annual event where the brand gives back to creative charities, those that give people to opportunity to get creative!
In 2020, the need for creativity is more important than ever. After a tough year, Vans are focusing specifically on the role that creativity plays in helping communities address mental health and well-being.
They’re supporting not one, or two, but 10 charities from around the world and donating a mega $1 million! These charities offer a range of different creative programmes in order to help people cope with the stressors that impact mental health.
Each charity will get $100,000 USD from The Vans Checkerboard Fund, which will go towards their organisation’s mission i.e. using creativity to improve the mental health and well-being of youth across the globe! This year’s chosen charities are: Campaign Against Living Miserably, The Wave Project, The Ben Raemers Foundation, Get Lit-Words Ignite, The Skatepark Project, Arte Por La Vida, Social Skate, Singapore Association for Mental Health, Buku Jalanan Chow Kit and World of Art Brut Culture.
Get the low down on each of the chosen charities over on Vans’ dedicated Checkerboard Day page, which we’ve dropped a link to at the end!
